Tony Owens Jr., MD
Dr. Owens was raised in Ladson, SC. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry as a summa cum laude graduate of Charleston Southern University. He went on to receive his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. He then completed a residency in anesthesiology at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.
Dr. Owens continued his medical education at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center (Carolinas Pain Institute) in Winston-Salem, NC, completing a pain management fellowship. While there he was actively involved in research and clinical trials associated with a variety of pain management treatment modalities.
Dr. Owens is dually board certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Management. He is well versed in medication management, interventional techniques, and spinal cord stimulation. He is best known for his breadth of knowledge and engaging personality. His pleasant, reassuring bedside manner enables him to effectively maintain trusting physician-patient relationships.
In his free time Dr. Owens enjoys weight lifting, history, and spending quality time with his wife and children.

Jonathan Gardner, MD, MHA
A native of our great state, Dr. Gardner grew up in Greenville, SC. He has lived and worked in Charleston since 2001. Dr. Gardner uses a full range of interventional, non- surgical and minimally invasive surgical techniques in order to provide a comprehensive approach to treating chronic pain. His special areas of interest include neurostimulation, encompassing spinal cord stimulators and peripheral nerve stimulators, as well as Kyphoplasty and Sacroiliac Joint Fusion. He is specifically skilled in the treatment of back, neck and joint pain, as well as more complicated neurologic disorders like CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome). However, Dr. Gardner is capable of treating chronic pain in all areas of the body.
Dr. Gardner earned his undergraduate degree in Biology from Washington & Lee University and a Master’s Degree in Health Administration from the University of South Carolina School of Public Health. He then moved to Charleston, where he earned his Medical Doctorate at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in 2005. He completed his four year residency in Anesthesiology at MUSC, and has been a practicing Anesthesiologist in Charleston since 2011. In 2021 he completed a one-year fellowship in Interventional Pain Management at the world-renowned Carolinas Pain Institute in Winston-Salem, NC. He worked under the tutelage of some of the country’s best interventional pain physicians, including Dr. James North, Dr. Richard Rauck, and Dr. Leo Kapural. They are acknowledged leaders in the evolution of pain management, with unrivaled credentials in research and publications. Under their guidance, Dr. Gardner perfected his procedural skills while learning state-of-the-art techniques in pain management. He is board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology.
In his free time, Dr. Gardner enjoys music, snowboarding, traveling, boating, and Clemson football. His most cherished time is spent with his wife and 2 daughters.

Andrea Stephens is our Office Manager at Carolina Pain Physicians. She came to our office with over 20 years of experience in Medical Office Management and Billing. Andrea's experience comes from her past employment at one of the largest Pain Management Facilities in the Charleston area. She joined the Carolina Pain Physicians family in 2014, providing our office with quality leadership. It is her passion to help our patients have a seamless office experience from check-in to check-out.
